How many tablets of artificial sweeteners can I daily use? |
On base of scientific data, World Health Organization establish Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) values. These ADI values are expressed in mg of artificial sweetener per kg of body weight. From ADI values one can calculate, that in case of lifelong usage adults can consume as many as about 20 tablets of sweetener on base of saccharin, 50 tablets of sweetener on base of acesulfame K and 130 tablets of sweetener on base of aspartame. These huge amounts nobody would use, but it is evidence of safety of artificial sweeteners for human consumption. |

Is it safe to eat products containing aspartame? |
Based on the previous evaluations and the new opinion, EFSA considers that aspartame remains safe for human consumption and there is no scientific basic for reconsidering its use in foods. The three breakdown products from aspartame are present naturally in other in other foods. |
How to fight overweight |

To burn this amout of energy represents more than half an hour aditional movement. And nevertheless sugar does not contain any usefull vitamins or minerals. Is it not better therefore to use some caloric-free sweetener instead? |
What is the metabolic syndrome? |
The metabolic syndrome is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person. They include: - Abdominal obesity: at men more than 102 cm, at women more than 88 cm - Elevated triglycerides: more than 150 mg/dL - Reduced HDL (good ) cholesterol, less than 40mg/dL at man and less than 50 mg/dL at women - Elevated blood pressure, more than 130/85 mm Hg - Elevated fasting glucose , more than 100 mg/ dL People with the metabolic syndrome are at increased risk of coronary heart disease and other diseases related to plaque bildups in artery walls and type 2 diabetes (insulin resistance). Recommendation for managing the metabolic syndrome include: - Weight loss to achieve a desisirable BMI less than 25 kg/ m2 - Increase physical activity , with a goal of at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity on most days of the week - Healthy eating habits that include reduced intake of saturated fats, cholesterol and sugar. Mono- and disacharides which are not transformed into energy are transformed and stored in a body as fat. |
